London ’08 Next Saturn Aura to come from new Insignia
General Motors product czar Bob Lutz says the new Vauxhall/Opel
Insignia, given its global debut at London, will be the basis for the
new Saturn Aura.
While the cars will share sub-systems, suspensions and powertrains, the Aura will have a completely different skin and interior.
“We’ve
researched the Insignia around the world, including the U.S., as an
internationally spectacular new design, but the Saturn version will be
its own car,” he said.
Lutz also shot down the possibility of a coupe version of the Insignia making production.
“Why introduce a two-door version of the four-door with the same sheetmetal?” he says.
GM
first revealed the Insignia’s new look as the GTC concept at Geneva in
2007, reviving memories of the hot- selling Calibra coupe of the late
1990s.
